A 69-year-old man drifted in uneven waters for practically a day whereas clinging to the underside of his capsized boat till he was saved by Japan’s coast guard, officers stated Wednesday. The person, whose identify has not been launched, was the one one on the boat, the No. 5 Takamaru, when it capsized off the southern Japanese resort island of Yakushima on Saturday, the coast guard stated.

After receiving a name from his colleagues, coast guard rescuers looked for him for practically a day earlier than recognizing him in tough seas about 18 miles southeast of the place he disappeared, it stated.

Televised video of the rescue, supplied by the coast guard, confirmed the person, who had a plastic sheet wrapped round him, sitting on the underside of his capsized boat whereas clinging to its propeller.
