Civil rights activists from Belarus honoured

Aachen (dpa) – The Worldwide Charlemagne Prize has been awarded in Aachen to the Belarusian opposition chief Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, to Veronica Tsepkalo and to Maria Kalesnikava, who’s imprisoned in Belarus. The three ladies stand for democratic improvement within the authoritarian-ruled nation and are being honoured for his or her brave dedication to freedom, democracy and the upholding of human rights. 

When the laureates had been chosen on the finish of 2021, the present developments couldn’t have been foreseen, mentioned Jürgen Linden, Chair of the Charlemagne Prize Board. The Charlemagne Prize has been awarded since 1950 for companies to Europe and European unification.
