Fundraiser for toddler orphaned by the Highland Park shooter raises $2 million

A fundraiser set as much as assist 2-year-old Aiden McCarthy, whose mother and father have been each killed in Monday’s mass capturing throughout a July 4th parade in Highland Park, Illinois, has raised nearly $2 million because it was created on Tuesday. 

As of Wednesday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $1.92 million, with its organizer, Irina Colon, noting that she created the fundraising effort with permission of the boy’s household. The toddler wasn’t injured within the capturing.

Kevin McCarthy, 37, and Irina McCarthy, 35, have been amongst these killed throughout the mass capturing, and Aiden was separated from his mother and father throughout the chaos. Dana and Greg Ring instructed CBS Chicago that they discovered the kid with a stranger, who was in shock, and that they took the boy and sorted him till a Highland Park police detective picked him up and reunited him together with his grandparents at a hospital.

“I’m establishing this fundraiser to help him and the caregivers who shall be tasked with elevating, caring for, and supporting Aiden as he and his help system embark on this surprising journey,” Colon wrote within the GoFundMe, which has attracted nearly 36,000 donations. 

She added, “Aiden shall be cared for by his loving household and he may have a protracted street forward to heal, discover stability, and in the end navigate life as an orphan.”
