Soldier killed in lightning strike at Georgia Military base recognized

One soldier was killed and 9 different troopers have been injured Wednesday in a lightning strike at Fort Gordon, an Military set up in Georgia, navy officers stated. The soldier killed was recognized as Sgt. 1st Class Michael D. Clark, 41.

“A local of Springfield, Mass., served within the Military and U.S. Military Reserve for greater than 22 years, deploying 4 occasions in help of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan,” the U.S. Military Reserve stated in an announcement.

“Sgt. 1st Clark was a loving husband, father, and a Patriot who deeply liked our nation. His management, data, expertise, and love for his fellow Troopers was immeasurable,” Maj. Stephen W. Rhinehart, commander, 933rd Ahead Resuscitative Surgical Firm, stated in an announcement.

The lightning strike occurred at about 11:10 a.m. whereas the troopers have been in a coaching space, fort spokesperson Anne Bowman confirmed to CBS Information in an announcement. The troopers have been collaborating in annual coaching for navy medical items on the time, in response to the Military Reserve.

Fort Gordon is situated simply west of Augusta.
